Why So Serious?

Why does it seem like everyone working in the fashion industry is mean, catty, snotty, and bitchy? Isn't fashion fun? Isn't it beautiful? Are those in the industry (and those trying to get into the industry) so afraid of someone "taking their spot" that they feel they have to be vicious? I feel that fashion could be taken way more seriously as an art form if everyone wasn't so angry (for lack of a better word), because the anger (again, for lack of a better word) comes off as superficial. Now some may argue that fashion is superficial and those who love it are vain, but with all of the hard work that goes into it, it really is art. Don't want to go on a tangent, so I'll leave it at that. Just something I was pondering.
